#12Search maps for "tea near me" and you mostly get coffee shops with a tea menu. This page only returns places where tea is the reason to go: tea houses, afternoon-tea rooms, loose-leaf shops with seating, matcha bars and chai houses. We cover 39 cities and 246 listings, with the most in New York, Portland and Las Vegas.
Nobody pays to be listed. Before a place goes in, we check its own website for the name, street address and whether it is still open. Each listing shows what the place is known for, a price range, and a public rating only when we could verify where it came from.
These results come from city guides we re-verify instead of scraping once. The email covers listing fixes, newly opened tea rooms and teas worth trying, and is sent only when something changed.

Read BlogPress "Use my location" and accept the browser prompt. Your browser works out where you are; after that the page downloads one small file of tea room map pins and works out the nearest tea rooms and city guides on your device. That download carries no location data, and your position is never sent to My Tea Explorer. When a nearby city has venues without a map pin, the results give the count; when the nearest guide has no pinned venues at all, a separate note says so.
Press "Use my location" above: pinned tea rooms come first, then the nearest city guides. Each guide lists tea houses, afternoon-tea rooms, loose-leaf shops with seating, matcha bars and chai houses, with addresses and what each is known for. We cover 39 cities and 246 listings. A tea room lists its teas by name and origin, not just "green" or "black". It brews loose leaf, sets water temperature and steep time by tea type (around 80 °C for most greens, near boiling for black tea and pu-erh), and will re-steep an oolong or pu-erh several times. Many serve gongfu style in a gaiwan or small clay pot, or Japanese style in a kyusu. A cafe that drops a bag into a cup of boiling water is not on our lists.
A place qualifies when tea is the reason to go. We confirm the name, street address and that it is still operating on the venue's own website before listing it, and we leave out coffee shops that merely sell tea, online-only vendors and bubble-tea chains. Nobody pays to be listed.

In each city guide, shops that sell tea under their own label are grouped under "Own-Label Tea Brands". Those are the places where you can buy the tea you drank. The Tea Brands directory lists tea companies by name.
Bubble tea is not in the main city guides. Cities with verified bubble-tea shops have a separate Boba & Iced Tea page, linked from the bottom of that city's guide, with each shop's address and what it is known for.
Press "Use my location" at the top. Pinned tea rooms are sorted by straight-line distance, and anything under a mile shows to a tenth (0.4 mi, say), so short walks stand out. The walk itself is usually longer than the straight line; open directions before you leave. Every result links to its city guide, which also lists venues that have no pin yet.
