Where to drink tea, who to buy it from, and how to brew it.

What this site is

My Tea Explorer is a reference site for people who drink loose leaf tea. We do three things: tell you which tea rooms and tea houses in a city are worth the trip, list the tea brands that actually sell good leaf, and show you how to brew it at home without guessing at water temperature or steep time.

What is on it

City guides

Tea rooms, afternoon tea services, gongfu tea houses, matcha bars and loose-leaf shops, city by city. Every venue is checked against its own website or a current listing before it goes in. Start at the city guides.

Tea brands

A directory of tea companies and vendors: what they sell, where their tea comes from, and links to their own shops. See Tea Brands.

Brewing guides and glossary

Step-by-step methods for gaiwan, kyusu, Western teapot, matcha and cold brew, plus a glossary of tea terms. See the brewing guides.

Steeping tools

A steeping chart with water temperature and time by tea type, a tea ratio calculator for grams of leaf per 100 ml, and a cost-per-cup calculator.

How we work

Real places, real brands

Every tea room, tea brand and product on the site exists and can be checked. If we cannot confirm a venue is open or a product is sold, it does not go in.

No pay-to-play

Venues and brands cannot pay to be listed, featured or ranked. The site currently runs no ads and no affiliate program. If that changes, the Privacy Policy and Terms will say so before the first ad or affiliate link goes live.

Numbers over adjectives

Brewing advice comes with grams, milliliters, degrees and seconds. Health and caffeine figures come with a source.

Corrections are welcome

Tea rooms close and brands change their range. If something on the site is wrong, tell us and we fix it.

Who writes it

The site is written and maintained by the My Tea Explorer team. Answers to common questions about how venues are chosen are on the FAQ.
