Pittsburgh's boba lives in Oakland: when TapiLab opened on Fifth Avenue in January 2025, The Pitt News counted 12 other boba shops already in the neighborhood. Squirrel Hill's Forbes Avenue is the second cluster, with Yi Fang and Tsaocaa a block apart. TapiLab makes its own pearls from tapioca starch and brown sugar, and Bantha Tea Bar in Bloomfield is the pick for loose-leaf iced tea.
