Nio Teas is a tea company based in Zürich, Switzerland with 56 teas in stock in our catalog. Last updated October 1, 2026 by My Tea Explorer.
Nio Teas is an online seller of Japanese tea run by Nio Teas GmbH from Schanzackerstrasse 34 in Zürich. Founder Oliver Staerkle started it after a 2016 trip to Japan: he ordered a few packs of tea, sold them at a farmers market in his hometown, then moved the business online. It has no tea shop; everything ships to order, and most product names carry the grower's or farm's name.
The range is almost entirely Japanese green tea, sorted by farm and prefecture rather than by blend. You can buy sencha from Shizuoka, Kagoshima, Miyazaki and Yakushima, several single-farm matchas, and roasted and stem teas. The company says it only lists tea grown without pesticides. Start with Fukamushi Sencha Kagoshima Murasaki for a deep-steamed everyday cup, then Nishi Gyokuro to taste what shading does to the same plant. Kyoto Matcha Masudaen covers matcha, and Miyazaki High Mountain Oolong is a rare Japanese oolong.
