Capital Teas was founded in Annapolis, Maryland in 2007 by Peter and Manelle Martino; Manelle's family has been in tea for five generations, back to an estate in Sri Lanka. The chain grew to 24 mall stores in eight states by 2016, then shrank to online and wholesale after 2018. Nostos Brands bought it in July 2025 and moved it back to Annapolis.
